03/09/2021 Blood tests – routine blood tests postponed

A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests.
Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems, will still get one but where your clinician feels that it is appropriate to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.
Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.

If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.

We have gone live with an online booking system for blood tests to ensure safe social distancing in the department.
Referrals from the GP will not be accepted as walk-ins and an appointment must be booked online.

There have been posts on social media with false information about opting out of sharing your data with the NHS.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • There is no 30 September deadline for opting out of sharing your data. You can opt out at any time.
  • NHS Digital will never sell your data.
  • There are strict rules about how the NHS can use your data. It’s only shared securely and safely.
  • Shared data helps the NHS. It has been used to find the first treatment for coronavirus and for vaccine research.

Covid-19 vaccination
Over 65s and people in ‘at risk’ groups are now invited for their vaccine. Over 65s can book an appointment directly at a larger vaccination centre or local pharmacy through the national booking system, or by calling 119 free of charge, anytime
between 7am and 11pm seven days a week.

GP led vaccination centres will initially focus on people in the clinically ‘at risk’ group such as those with long term conditions to support continuity of care.

So far, millions of people have been given a COVID-19 vaccine
Getting vaccinated provides protection from the virus which can be very serious and potentially life threatening.

The NHS would encourage you to take the vaccine when it is offered to you, and if you have any questions or concerns please, just ask.

We have been advised to free up time with our team to help look after patients with emergencies and protect patients with the vaccine.
